Who We Are
Few people can understand the physical and emotional trauma that burn survivors experience from their excruciating injuries and the disfiguring scars that accompany them. Many times, the road to recovery is more painful than the injury itself, both emotionally and physically. And if we can’t understand… how can we help?
Dustin Wise, founder of The Wise Foundation and a burn survivor himself, identified this need and started this organization to help other survivors find the resources they need for a wholesome recovery. Burn survivors experience a variety of barriers. With a community of people supporting them on this journey, these barriers are more easily surmounted.
Our goal is to see every burn survivor live life to the fullest: without limitations, fear, or insecurity. For the past five years, we have done this through our annual Young Adult Conference, hosted in Tulsa, Oklahoma every spring Now serving over 300 survivors nationwide, we are proud to partner with survivors, families, health care professionals, burn centers, fire departments, burn camps, and support groups, to be an inspiring and liberating resource for burn survivors and survivor support systems everywhere.
As a part of our new initiative, for the first time ever, we are making our highly successful conference resources available all year round. In addition to these resources, we are also adding new content every month that will encourage and inspire burn survivors, survivor support systems, and non-profit organizations thrive in all their efforts. We hope you take advantage of these resources and pass them along to friends, family, and other acquaintances that can also benefit from them at NO COST.
